Venture Southland administers the following funds on behalf of the Southland District Council:
John Beange Fund
This fund provides assistance for the advancement of education and learning for people living within the John Beange Fund geographic boundary. They must be in physical or financial need occasioned by age, illness, congenital defect, accident or other misfortune.
Southland Regional Heritage Fund
This fund assists with projects and initiatives which preserve, communicate and promote Southland’s heritage.
SDC District Heritage Fund
This fund assists with the operational costs associated with the day-to-day running of local museums, heritage centres or similar type organisations.
SDC Community Initiatives Fund
This fund assists with the development of community facilities or amenities, sport and recreational opportunities, and community programmes, activities or events.
SDC Creative New Zealand Creative Communities Scheme
This scheme is to create opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in arts activities. The funding is available to support the diverse artistic cultural traditions of local communities; and enable young people, under 18 years of age, to engage with and participate in the arts.
SDC Northern Southland Development Fund
This fund assists the development, maintenance and enhancement of facilities, amenities and programmes for residents within the Northern Southland Development Fund Area.
The fund also assists with refurbishment and operational requirements of facilities and amenities within the Northern Southland Development Fund Area.
SDC Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund
This fund assists with transport costs associated with participating in regular local competitions. Sports clubs and school-based clubs with people aged 5 – 19 years are eligible to apply.
Stewart Island/Rakiura Visitor Levy Fund
The levy funds activities and facilities used by, or for the benefit of, visitors to Stewart Island and activities and facilities that mitigate the adverse effects of visitors on the environment of Stewart Island.
Wyndham Charitable Trust
The Trust assists with the development, maintenance and enhancement of facilities, amenities and programmes for residents within the Wyndham Charitable Trust Fund Area.
The fund also assists with refurbishment and operational requirements of facilities and amenities within the Wyndham Charitable Trust Fund Area.
Venture Southland administers the following scholarships on behalf of SDC:
Southland District Council Centennial Bursary
There are two scholarships awarded annually. The value of each scholarship is $2,000. Applicants are restricted to those about to commence the first year of tertiary study, this includes mature students, and must be academically qualified for admission to a tertiary education institution.
Southland District Council ‘Eric Hawkes Memorial” Outward Bound Scholarship
There is one scholarship for those aged 18 – 26 years. This scholarship covers course and travel costs. There is also one scholarship for those aged 27 years and over. This scholarship covers course costs only.
Southland District Council Valmai Robertson Arts Scholarship
There is a contestable fund of up to $2,500 annually. This scholarship is to encourage and assist those wishing to increase their skills through the attendance of development courses, workshops, projects or study in the Arts.
Venture Southland's role as administrator of these funds includes:
- Updating application forms as required.
- Advertising funding rounds.
- Collating applications received.
- Preparing agendas for the various allocation meetings including applications summaries, recommendations, minutes and financial reports.
- Notifying applicants of the outcome of their application.
- Arranging payment of grants awarded.
- Preparing reports for Creative New Zealand Creative Communities and Sport New Zealand after each funding round.
- Maintaining a register of grants awarded for each fund.
- Maintaining a register of accountability forms returned for each fund.
