Southland could be the New Zealand we all dream about on long haul flights after an article promoting the region was featured in Kia Ora magazine.
The article published in the 2018 March edition highlighted the growing attraction for New Zealand’s southernmost region, with Venture Southland playing a key role in the article’s development.
Venture Southland was approached by Laura Williamson, a freelance journalist based in Wanaka, to help develop an itinerary that would showcase the very best of Southland for her article in Kia Ora.
As the regional tourism organisation for Southland Venture Southland has strong connections with tourism and trade operators that result in extensive and exciting itineraries being developed.
Williamson had asked Venture Southland to focus on developing a schedule that included the best of Northern Southland, Western Southland and Invercargill as these were areas she had not yet explored in Southland.
With activities that included cycling part of the Around the Mountains cycle trail, walking the Humpridge track, visiting Classic Motorcycle Mecca and enjoying the best of Southern fare the itinerary resulted in an article that truly showcased the best of the South.
Venture Southland Tourism manager Warrick Low said that the Kia Ora magazine was just one example of where Venture Southland had provided support for media representatives in promoting the region to national and international markets.
“We are always trying to promote Southland as a preferred destination, and building itineraries for media famils, attending tradeshows and providing support to our local operators are all avenues through which this is able to be achieved,” Low said.
The relationships Venture Southland has established with local tourism operators has meant that the value and potential benefit of hosting media is well understood in the region.
Venture Southland provides support to tourism operators so that they are able to successfully promote and their product and be aware of changing trends in the tourism sector.
