Time to get your bike out of its winter resting place and celebrate the new cycling season with the Northern Southland community at the second Northern Southland Cycle and Celebrate on 11 November.
The event is a family focused one including a competitive twist with a 15km ride from Five Rivers to Lumsden on the Around the Mountains Trail and timed races for the more competitive cyclists.
Adding to the fun is a gala and market day in Lumsden featuring entertainment from band Elbow Junction, food and craft stalls showcasing local talent.
Event organising committee member Kim Spencer-McDonald says the day is possible through the support of the community and major sponsor Cross Roads Cycles in Gore, and the support of many other businesses that have contributed a range of fantastic prizes.
We want as many people of all ages participating, the cycle trail is a huge asset on our doorstep and it’s important that we make the most of it.
We’ve got extra bikes for those who either don’t have one or can’t transport one to the event on the day.
Venture Southland Community Development Planner Susan McKenzie says the work being put in by the organisers is inspiring.
Events like Cycle Celebrate do so much to bring communities together, the Northern Southland Resource Centre Charitable Trust are to be applauded for all their work toward making the event a reality.
I look forward to the big day and encourage Southlanders to either sign up to participate or come along to support competitors and enjoy the entertainment and market day.
All proceeds of Cycle Celebrate will be put toward community based projects and initiatives in the Northern Southland area.
